How Global Virtual Care supports employees worldwide

See how Global Virtual Care helps employees access trusted medical advice wherever they live, work or travel.

When employees work across countries and time zones, getting medical advice is not always straightforward. A familiar clinic may be far away, local systems can be difficult to navigate and appointments may not fit around work, travel or family life. Through the MembersWorld app, Global Virtual Care gives eligible employees with an international private medical insurance plan access to a doctor by phone or video, day and night, wherever they are.

That ease of access can make a meaningful difference. Instead of searching for a local clinic or rearranging the working day, employees can seek timely guidance through a secure consultation. For employers, it offers a more consistent way to support people across locations and helps make healthcare benefits feel useful in everyday life.

Care that works around employees

When a health concern arises, timing matters. Yet finding a convenient appointment can be difficult, especially for someone travelling or living in an unfamiliar healthcare system. Global Virtual Care provides eligible employees with unlimited access to experienced international doctors through secure phone or video consultations, so they can receive guidance without first visiting a clinic.

The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allowing employees to choose a time that suits them. Whether they are working across time zones, managing family commitments or looking for advice outside normal clinic hours, they can access support with less disruption from travel and waiting rooms.

Consultations are available at no extra cost for eligible employees and do not reduce their policy benefit limits. If a doctor recommends a prescription, referral or in-person treatment, any subsequent care will depend on the employee’s health plan and may require pre-authorisation.

Consistent support for a global workforce

A health concern can feel more complicated when it happens away from home. For employees on international assignments or frequent business trips, Global Virtual Care offers a familiar first point of contact, connecting them with internationally qualified doctors from almost anywhere in the world.

During a consultation, the doctor can assess symptoms, provide medical guidance, recommend prescription or over-the-counter medication and share practical self-care advice. If further treatment is needed, they can arrange a specialist referral or help the employee understand the most appropriate next step within the local healthcare system.

Where local regulations allow, prescriptions and referral letters can be sent directly to the employee’s phone, with prescription delivery available in selected countries. This creates a smoother path from the first conversation to any follow-up care.

For employers, this connected care journey can strengthen the value of an international health plan. It gives employees a clear, dependable route to medical advice, wherever work or life takes them.

Supporting employee wellbeing and early action

Global Virtual Care is not limited to unexpected illness. Employees can also use it to ask questions about staying healthy or discuss their physical and mental wellbeing. Depending on the plan, they may also have access to mental health support and digital wellbeing tools through the MembersWorld app.

Removing practical barriers can also encourage people to seek guidance sooner. A doctor can offer reassurance, recognise symptoms that may need prompt attention and direct the employee towards face-to-face care when appropriate.

For employees who live overseas, travel frequently or work remotely, that reassurance can be particularly valuable: trusted medical support remains close at hand, even when home is not.

Designed for diverse employee needs

With unlimited consultations for eligible employees and family members, the service can adapt to many different circumstances. An employee might book an evening appointment after work, seek advice during a business trip or arrange support for an eligible family member without leaving home.

Telephone consultations are available in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic, German, Cantonese and Mandarin, helping employees communicate more comfortably. Video consultations are available in English and Spanish; in Singapore, consultations are provided by video in English.

Simple access through MembersWorld

The experience is designed to be simple from the start. Employees can access Global Virtual Care through the MembersWorld app and manage the process directly and discreetly.

They select 'Digital Healthcare', choose 'Speak to a doctor anytime, anywhere', pick a preferred appointment time and connect with an international doctor by phone or video. They can also upload photos or documents in advance to give the doctor useful context.

This straightforward digital journey gives employees more control over when and how they seek advice, while helping to reduce the administrative burden on HR teams.

A valuable addition to an employee health strategy

For organisations managing a global workforce, a healthcare benefit only delivers value when employees can use it with confidence. Global Virtual Care brings clinical expertise, convenience and digital access together in one service, helping make support feel both immediate and personal.

By including virtual care within an employee health strategy, employers can give their people a trusted route to medical guidance that fits around work, travel and family life.

Whether someone is looking for reassurance about a new symptom, seeking guidance while abroad or arranging support for an eligible family member, Global Virtual Care helps keep expert healthcare within reach. For employers, it can form an important part of a broader wellbeing proposition: practical support for people, wherever they live and work.
